WhatsApp and SMS APIs for Jewellers: Doing It Properly

Order updates and delivery confirmations belong on the channel customers actually read. Here is the difference between a shared-pool blast and messaging on your own business identity.

Jewellery is a high-trust, high-value, slow-cycle purchase. A customer who has left a piece for repair or ordered a custom set will wonder about it, and if you do not tell them where it is, they will call and ask. Every one of those calls is a cost you chose not to avoid.

Use the Channel People Read

Email open rates in this trade are poor. WhatsApp is where customers actually are, and a message there gets read within minutes. The point is not novelty — it is that a status update only helps if it arrives somewhere the customer looks.

Your Identity, Not a Shared Pool

There is a real difference between messages sent from your verified business number and messages blasted from a shared gateway. The first builds trust and can be replied to. The second lands next to spam and often fails delivery. If a platform cannot use your own sender identity, it is not integration, it is broadcasting.

Trigger on Events, Not on Someone Remembering

The messages worth sending are the ones tied to something that just happened: an order confirmed, a repair ready, a consignment dispatched, a delivery completed, a payment received. If sending them depends on a person remembering, they will go out inconsistently and the customer will learn not to rely on them. Tie them to the event in the system and they become reliable by construction.

Keep the Volume Honest

The fastest way to lose a WhatsApp channel is to abuse it. Transactional updates about a customer's own order are welcome. Unsolicited promotional blasts get you blocked and reported, and once enough customers report you, the channel is gone. Restraint is not politeness here, it is self-preservation.

Integration Means Two-Way

Finally, a serious setup is not just outbound. Replies should land somewhere a human sees them, attached to the customer record rather than lost in a personal phone. Combined with a documented REST API and webhooks, messaging becomes part of your system rather than a bolt-on that only works one way.
